Los Angeles, CA - Sam Smith’s new raunchy music video sparks controversy over age restrictions on social media platforms. The nonbinary singer dropped the visual treatment for their latest single I'm Not Here To Make Friends, which is featured on their recently-released album, Gloria with the four minute music video featuring several sexually suggestive scenes. Sam is depicted in several eye-popping outfits, including one where their chest is on display with nipple pasties in place. There are also moments where SS is being sprayed in the face with water before he writhes over scantily clad dancers. In other scenes, the dancers are filmed slowly thrusting on a bed wearing only black leather underwear and later surround Smith, who is non-binary and uses the pronouns they/them, while dancing provocatively. Critics were soon calling for it to be age restricted on platforms such as YouTube due to its controversial content after Sam began trending over the content. Most of the critics claim the video is ‘wildly inappropriate’ to be posted on YouTube which could be viewed by very young kids. The argument is that I'm Not Here is just a hyper-sexualized demonstration of perversion for the hell of it, masked as body positivity and LGBTQ+ empowerment. But fans have been quick to point out how similarly risqué videos have been released by global artists such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax.
